object oriented progrming - need to learn

I am VERY inexperienced with all of it... I know only of the existence of object oriented programing. Anyone knows where can I find material to learn?
Can I dim i in a public function and use I in some other sub, will it recognize. Just point to me some material on it if you know any, I´ll go after it to learn. Thanks a lot
