Hello.

I am trying to install Access 97 on a machine that currently has Office 2002 (XP) installed on it.

I have searched and found information about installing Access 97 on a machine with Office 2000...

Has anyone successfully done this? Should I follow the same directions for installed 2000 and 97 together?

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks.

I've been afraid to try it because it was so annoying having A97 and A2K on the same PC. But it is getting to the point where I need to get rid of my old PC so I can regain some working space. I would follow the directions for A2K and cross my fingers. I have not seen any articles on the kb specifically regarding AXP and A97 and I have looked. I have installed A97 on a WinXP system and it worked fine but those PC's didn't have a newer version of Access already installed.

Good luck and please report back.

I have 97 and Xp installed in my PC. The basic rule is to install them in order of production. Install 97 first, then XP. Make sure to change the directory you install them so they don't overwrite one another. Xp gives you the option of upgrading or installing a new version. Just choose the new version. Good Luck!

...Quick Follow-up

Thanks for the responses. I appreciate the information...

I have already installed XP on my computer...Will it be sufficient to uninstall it and then install 97 followed by reinstalling XP?

Uninstall XP first

My new computer came with OfficeXP pre-installed but with the CD-ROM's still in their original shrinkwrap (Thank you, Gateway-some companies don't supply the copy).

I uninstalled the whole OfficeXP and then installed 97, then 2000, and then re-installed the XP (from the CD-ROM), each in a separate directory. (I have multiple clients running each of these.)

Everything is working. One caveat -- I did the "uninstall" before I "registered" the XP with Microsoft. If it was already registered and you have to re-register, I don't know what effect this may have on your ability to run the XP. Also, if you run into trouble, I doubt Microsoft would help you out since this multiple use of different versions is "NOT RECOMMENDED."

It's "not recommended" but they do have to support it if you legally own all three copies. They even tell you how to install all three copies at once on their knowledge base.

Why have all three copies installed? I find having 97 and XP installed is really all I need, since XP saves in 2000 format (unless otherwise specified when saving)
