oh where to begin ??!!?

I need to come up with a resource planning system that will automatically collate a rota over a standard week, which must include the possibility of different start times for weekends, as well as standard rules such as maximum working hours, two rest days etc.

Most systems on the web are not suitable without spending serious money to custom make one, hense this question..

It would be cheaper for me to get people within the business who have access experience to create this, however before I present this idea to management, need to know if it can be done via Access.

Has anyone out there worked on anything similar, or have the knowledge to let me know if it can be done.

A Rota mate is a collection of shifts. something like

mon 8-4
tue 8-4
wed 8-4
thu 8-4
fri 8-4
sat Rest Day
Sun Rest Day

However, in a business a rota is a collection of shifts numbering from one to .... dependant on the number of people you need for the job in hand.
