And just another bit of info -
Until you get to 500 points, you get a new green blob for every 100 points of rep that is given to you. Each person starts off with 10 points in rep and 1 green blob. If they get less than 10 points (meaning disapproving) then it turns red. After you get to 500 (6 green blobs) you have to get a whole lot more to get a seventh. Not sure where the cutoff is for that.
As you have time on the board and you have more posts and you get more rep points, the rep points you have are worth more and more. So, if you are just starting out, you can give comments but your rep doesn't give points (hence a gray jelly in the rep area of the person you just gave rep to). After about 50 points and/or some time (not sure how much) on the board you will get 1 point to give. Then it grows from there. Someone who has been on the board for many years and has many, many posts and has a lot of rep points themselves will give away a ridiculous number of points for each person they give reputation to. When disapproving, it does not affect it like when you approve. It only removes half of the number of points your account would give if it was positive approval.
There are different sayings associated with your account (when you mouse over the green jellies on someone's post or profile) like "X is on a distinguished road." These change based on your posts as well and will change starting at 50 points and then at 150, 250, 350, etc. So, halfway between your jellies, the saying changes.
Hopefully that helps explain it a bit more. It probably should really just go away as it has affected people (me included, in the past) and it would be better served just to not have it at all. But as it is here (and Jon isn't likely going to turn it off any time soon) at least you know what it means.
