Only show balance (running sum) for last record on that date

I would like to replicate a bank statement. One column for in and one for out and another for balance (and a column for the date of transaction). However (like bank statements) I only want to show the balance for the last transaction of a particular date. Also I only want to show the date for the first transaction of the day. I don't want to use date as a grouping level. I want everything on one line per transaction. How do I go about this i.e hiding the contents of the textbox ?
