I'm opening various Excel documents from an event in Access via...

Label22.HyperlinkAddress = "Z:\Quotes\" & [QuoteString] & ".xls"

Is there a way to have the xls open in Read-Only mode ONLY when opened from Access.

Any help is appreciated.

The lazy way round this is to make a copy of the file using the FileCopy method and use the SetAttr function to make the file read only and link to the copy.

There is no easy way to do this unless you want to get into creating excel objects form manipulation. If you need to do this then please come back, it is not major difficult - it's the resetting to not read-only after that's tricky.

Ian,

I am interested in what ever I need to do to protect this. My users must be prevented from changing the Excel sheet at all costs!!

Making a read-only copy is not a viable option so please provide the details to create Excel objects you mentioned.

Thank you.

Thanks Ian. I'll Chew on this a while and see what I can develop.
