I have a database which I need to distribute to my friends, the problem is that they don't have access, is there any way to make the databases work without Access or as a stand alone application? Or even a free program which would let you open it?

If im remembering correctly (good chance im not) the developer edition can turn them into exes.

Shoot

Shoot, I've heard that's really expensive

I think that is how Mr Gates earns his crust, and perhaps a wee smear of jam to sweeten it.

You could think about exporting the data to the Star Office database. I seem to recall that is free but also seem to recall that when I looked at it I didn't like it.
Depends whether you want to distribute data or get them being interactive. If the former then look at exporting reports to Word or .rtf. If the latter, then you will need to get creative.

you can't create an exec. the dev. edition gives you license to distribute the run time files for Access along with your application
