Just Wondering

Has anyone ever heard anthing about data being lost due to upgrading operating sytems, ie W98ME to W2000

I recently had to provide a copy of my database to a firm that was doing some work for us

and for some reason thousands of records were missing,
but when I checked my databse they were still there.

I was asked if I had recently upgraded my Windows version,

I have not had any problems with my data before, and I thought
it did not matter on what system was used. maybe it was a quick thinking excuse to cover up a mistake, or is it possible for this kind of problem to happen?

Any ideas

Thanks

That's a new one to me.

As far as I understand it, it shouldn't matter what version of Windows OS is running but I could be wrong:p

One thing I did have a problem with was sharing a front end .mdb on Terminal Server. This caused the back end tables to corrupt constantly so in the end we did away with terminal server.

Is it possible that someone else accidently deleted records for whatever reason?

It is possible, but unlikely

I gave them a copy with all records intact, but after whatever manipulation they were doing to it, for some reason thousands of records entered the Bermuda triangle.

I did think it strange to be asked about the O/S

Cheers;)

We use 95, 98, W2K and XP with NT and Win2k servers and have never had the problem you describe. We also use split databases with Terminal Server without a problem.
