hi all, hope this is an easy one

what control in the form toolbox do i use as a 'panel', ie a container for grouping like functions for design purposes, that I can add other controls to and move 'em all around at the same time.

the 'rectangle' sort of looks like what i want, when i set the background to normal, but when i put things in it and then move the rectangle, the things stay in their spot. If i cut the control, then select the rectangle and try to paste the control, it gets pasted outside the rectangle.

is there a panel control that does what i'm talking about?

Hi Dear,
> A very simple solution could be grouping all items with rectangle..... you can do this in this way..... Format menu > group.

Access does not really have a panel you do this with, however you can select multiple controls by holding your shift key down and then hit the GROUP button. That will essentially do what you want.

Thanks Dezirous, i used the tab control and changed the Style to none (removes the tabs). The rectangle, as I mentioned doesn't work, because the controls inside don't move with it.

Components do move when I move the TabCtl, but it seems that the IDE doesn't always recognise when I click on the it (the property box says i'm in Detail), but I can scroll to the TabCtl in the list and access properties that way.

thx heaps

why is having to lasso the rectangle and the contents an issue?

make sure your system options are set to allow partial selection, as thats easier.

you can lasso controls, or you can shift click to select multiple controls

but you only do this briefly while designing a form.

If you had to select the whole group (automatically), you wouldn't be able to reposition or delete an item within the group very easily, would you?
