"Are you from...?" can mean, "do you live there?", "were you raised there?", "were you born there?", "is that the organization to which you belong?","is that the influence that shapes your current line of reasoning?" etc...in short, it can mean a lot of things. If you require specific data, be specific in your request. Don't use imprecise regional colloqialisms if you expect to be understood by an international audience.

It looks like this will be a long boring tit-for-tat discussion, but, if thats what you want then so be it.

If you wish to be so incredibly picky about the use of English to someone living and born in the UK then I suggest you read up about the true meaning of things before you start coming on with the incorrect US version being correct.

16 million Americans served in the military during WWII. Over 400,000 of them died.

You dishonor the memory of those brave men and women with your implication that America's primary involvement/interest in the war was profiteering.
