I have a pivot table that pulls from a data worksheet. Everything looks correct except one columns sum is 1 off. The sum should be 30 but it states 29. Based on the the data is is 30. Also when I look at each subentry it adds up to 30. However the sum shows 29. This is the sum of a column btw.

Is there any way I look behind the scenes and see how its summing up?

Check to see if you've accounted for nulls using the NZ function. Nulls can throw a monkey wrench into calculations (although normally you get an error as the result instead of one off).

How do I check for this as you've stated?

Also I notice when I change the way the list is filtered I will be that same miscalulation for different rows/columns.

Query SQL? Wait...I'm confused. I dont have any behind the scene code or anything. I'm doing this in Excel. The pivot table was made by someone else. All I know how to do is click on the individual cells and bring up the filtered sheet which I can vary data with.

Sorry, I missed that this was in Excel. Can you post the sheet/sheets in question?

Possibly this is caused by the figures displaying at say 2 dp but the real values remain as calculated - this can make total 'different' from the sum of the displayed components.

Hi qafself

Check the field that you have used to count the rows in the Pivot Table layout.

If you use a column name in the 'Data' area of a Pivot Table that is not always populated, it will only count what is populated.
