I have a database in ACCESS '97. I tried to convert it and/or open it in ACCESS 2000. It asks me if I want to convert or open. Either answer results in the same thing - - - a blank screen staring back at me (No database present). I've waited up to 5 minutes and nothing. Its not a very big database either so I don't know what's up.

Can anyone offer an explanation for what might be going on? Do I have any options for solving the problem?

Canadaboy,

Try opening the database using the shift key bypass (ie: hold the shift key down while opening the database)

This will bypass any startup options. I have heard of similar circumstances where the switchboard fails conversion.

If this works, recreate your switchboard in the new 2000 database.

I have seen the database in action and it doesn't have a switchboard.

Assuming I tried the "Shift key trick" correctly, I got the same response - - - a blank screen. I held down the shift key and double clicked. It prompted me for conversion or opening. I tried both options, also holding down the shift key. Blank screen.

Any other ideas????

I can try to open the database in '97 tomorrow and see what happens.

Thanks for the thought.

CanadaBoy,

Can you open a new blank database and import all of your
database objects into it?

I could try that, but I can't open the '97 database in 2000 to even view the objects. I'm going to have to have access to version '97. I'll look into purchasing it since I appear to need both of them.

Canada,

Access 2000 can open (and convert) an Access 97 database.
Off-hand, I don't know if it can import from one. I'd suggest
that you go back to the source and get them to Compact/
Repair the database and try again.

Or perhaps, in the A97 arena, start over and import all
objects into a new Access 97 database.
