Protections?

I'm trying to import data through file-->get external data.. however, the database i'm trying to import to won't let me access file/get external data. I assume there's security to keep you from doing it.. does anyone know how to bypass this? Thanks!

The problem is that I can't even highlight the External Data option... its shaded out for protection I assume. I need to be able to import and link tables and I have very little experience with access. Is there anyway to remove the security on the database? Thanks!

The file is a .mdb and I am running retail access 2000. The database does have a front end/back end I think. Is that what you mean if the database is secured? If so, shouldn't I be able to import/link tables anyway? Thanks!
