RE: A Sorely Missed Feature (The UNRELATED posts)

But one I am using on the other forums (gun sites) that I am currently posting on, is this one:

roflmao.gif

So when do use that smilie on a gun site? When someone has killed something (someone)?

Imagine that - a site for people who carry guns - how positively awful. Do you have competitions to see who can kill the most things in 24hrs?

It's totally alien (in the UK) and horrible - sites like that should be banned as they encourage gun use.

Re: A sorely missed feature

Why do Americans carry / own a gun (or guns)?

Is it protection? Would you kill a person? That neighbourhood watch bloke did in the US and is being done for murder.

Is where you live making carrying a gun a necessity?

Oh dear, questions for an American gunslinger - post will be deleted and questions not answered.

That'll be 3 posts on the trot that have been deleted then. How about a leaderboard for the most posts / threads deleted - I would win that easily. Just ask a Yank (especially Larson) a question.

(Phew! - good job I checked my 5 usernames (on different IP addresses) earlier so a ban will last about 2 mins when the ads have loaded)

Re: A sorely missed feature

Isn't it interesting that not answering reasonable questions can almost speak volumes as much as if they were answered.

So one can reason that -

a) Americans are embarrassed about admitting they carry / own guns.

b) Americans here (especially Larson) hate to be questioned, probobly on almost any subject. They dish out hairbrained diagnoses regarding mental health specialties, yet, never qualify their expertise in that or any subject.

c) They hope things will go away if they ignore it.

d) They know that carrying / owning a gun is mostly an act of bravado trying to emulate the likes of Jesse James and Wyatt Earp. They would maybe never use it in anger - so what's the point?

Tell that to my wife :p

Hi Col

Just how many times have you been banned from this site.

Maybe because you are posting on someone else's thread and very off topic.

Larson mentioned guns - not me. I just asked a few questions which have been ignored by Americans.

I think maybe 3. Ask Larson and Vass, they are the ones that hate me and ban me.

Oh, and you need a question mark after you ask a question.

Actually, I was thinking of venturing up to Liverpool to see the Beatles museum and stuff. Any good?

I've never been, but a few years ago Hazel, when she was still reasonably well, took a New Zealand friend round the pseudo cavern at the Albert Dock and they enjoyed it.
Hazel relived her teenage Cavern years.
I believe that only one of the Beatles tours actually goes into John and Paul's houses the rest just stand outside.
When are you thinking of doing this, will Mary be with you?

Hi Bri, No, Mary will be in a respite care place in Southampton for a week - this is in October after we have finished with our French student girls.

I'm a little worried about venturing so far North - although I do have a flat cap. I am still debating about it. I understand the meat pies are good up north though so that is a plus. A minus is I don't understand what people say. Another plus is that Liverpool people have a good sense of humour.

Maybe I could fly up, have a nose about and stay in a 4 star then come home next day.

Re: A sorely missed feature

I certainly don't speak for all Americans, but I'll feed the troll.

Why do Americans carry / own a gun (or guns)?

I own several guns. Hunting is a storied part of my family tradition as well as our local culture. I also firmly believe in the Second Amendment. History tells us that an armed citizenry is necessary to shed oneself of tyrannical rule. I would think you would be keenly aware of that...

Is it protection? Would you kill a person? That neighbourhood watch bloke did in the US and is being done for murder.

If someone was threatening my family, or a situation ever arose where it was going to be him or me, I would absolutely pull the trigger. I'd rather be judged by 12 than carried by 6. And the bloke in Florida is being tried for murder, hasn't been convicted yet.

Is where you live making carrying a gun a necessity?

A necessity, no; but I would rather have it and never need it, than need it and not have it. Minneapolis is not the safest place in the world however.

And if I'm not mistaken, don't countries with strict gun laws just see higher cases of violent crimes with knives and other items?

Oh, and not to be totally off topic, I love the new head banging into wall smiley :D

Re: A sorely missed feature

And if I'm not mistaken, don't countries with strict gun laws just see higher cases of violent crimes with knives and other items?

Yep. They see higher instances of random crimes as well. Muggings, car-jackings, and even armed theft are higher per capita in the UK than in the US. Maybe it's because criminals here never know if the person they are robbing has a bigger gun. Sure, murder by shooting is higher in the US, but those usually are not random crimes. That's a targeted event. If someone was going to kill someone, they would do it by any means necessary.

Re: A sorely missed feature

Murder in total per capita is higher in the USA, much higher. But that might have nothing to do with guns (although I suspect guns play a big part of that in gang warfare).

I don't think we're comparing like with like. The UK is a small country with an entirely tamed landscape (no wolves or bears), no land borders with other countries without gun control and a place where guns have been successfully controlled for a long time.

To compare that with USA is nonsense. It's the opposite in every respect. And besides, the USA is really 50 countries in one and half a continent. Any generalisations there are misleading.

I've decided not to go to Liverpool. There was report issued last week which stated that Liverpool was in the top 3 most deprived and dangerous places in the UK.

I don't really do deprived, so I'll stay in the affluent south I think.

Just in from a 6 mile stroll through the local parks and down by th river, can't say I saw any threatening people, but then I've lived in Merseyside for 70 years and can't recall being threatened, I do know however that there are parts best avoided at certain times just like any other big city, also it is best not to go into a pub and say derogatory things about scousers.

Re: A sorely missed feature

This forum is just not about Access. It also broadens our scope on the culture of the rest of the world. I just read up on Scousers.

So Brian, do you consider yourself a scouser having been in Merseyside for 7 decades or are you a woolyback? :) I hope I am not being derogatory here as I am still learning your culture.

Re: A sorely missed feature

We consider that scousers have to be born near the city centre, infact really the old Scotland Road area where Cilla Black came from rather than the Southern parts where Ringo was born, but I think that the use has spread to mean all inner city Liverpudlians.
I'm not even a Liverpudlian by birth as I was born in the Parish of Sefton in the Lancashire Rural District., but we did have a Liverpool post code for identification. I walked to school across fields that are no longer there and my bedroom looked across fields to the local woods so I guess I'm more woollyback by birth tho' there were cows in the fields not sheep :)

Re: A sorely missed feature

True scousers say things like:

"Eh! Eh! Calm down! Calm down!"
and
"You tellin me to calm down?"
and
"Yeah"
and
"Yeah?"
and
"They do though don't they though"

(You Tube: Harry Enfield Scousers)

Re: A sorely missed feature

Harry Enfield comes from down south and knows b all about scousers, I've never heard any behave like that, the chances are if you can understand them they are not true scousers, that example's English was far too good.
