Re: A sorely missed feature

WHAT!? I thought it was a fly on the wall documentary.

Of course, every city is mostly full of decent people and has its fair share of yobs.

Besides: you think scousers have an undeserved bad rep? I'm a brummy!

Re: A sorely missed feature

The main thing wrong with Birmingham is that it hasn't got a decent football team, hang on neither have we. :D

Re: A sorely missed feature

We consider that scousers have to be born near the city centre, infact really the old Scotland Road area where Cilla Black came from rather than the Southern parts where Ringo was born, but I think that the use has spread to mean all inner city Liverpudlians.
I'm not even a Liverpudlian by birth as I was born in the Parish of Sefton in the Lancashire Rural District., but we did have a Liverpool post code for identification. I walked to school across fields that are no longer there and my bedroom looked across fields to the local woods so I guess I'm more woollyback by birth tho' there were cows in the fields not sheep :)

There is also a theory that true Scousers were/are born within the site of the Liver Buildings, which would make half of Wirral scousers as well, despite the fact we (Wirralians) have traditionally been a different county. We were originally part of Cheshire until the Government reorganisation of 1974 when we became part of Merseyside. During this period, we had a Liverpool postcode, but when we reverted to a Chester postcode in the early 1990s, insurance premiums plummeted, or so my parents tell me. I was living in the West Country by then - Avon & Zummerzet, moving to Brummyland about 10 years later and quitting Blighty some 18 months ago.

Re: A sorely missed feature

Did you mean site or sight in either case I have never heard that.

As for those aliens from across the water no true Liverpudlian wants anything to do with them, coming over here and stealing our jobs.

Re: A sorely missed feature

Mean't sight rather than site DOH !!!:banghead: And I'm mean't to be wanting to teach English abroad fairly soon - Heaven help those learning from me :D

With regard to the Wirral/Liverpool rivalry - feelings mutual !!! Was up in the Pilbara (North West of WA) about 15 months ago and met a lady originally from Anfield in Liverpool. When we revealed our roots, both said "Oh THAT side of the River!!!!" We then went on to talk about the "Correct Side" and the "Other Side". A colleague of mine questioned me on this, only to be given the answer "Depends on who's speaking".

Re: A sorely missed feature

I can't go to Liverpool.

a) it's up north.

b) it's in the top 3 most deprived cities in Europe.

c) House prices are falling whereas in the south they are steadily rising.

d) You can't get salad or fresh veg north of Watford Gap (according to the sign on the M1)

e) If it was so brilliant, Macca, Gerry, Tarby and Cilla would live there instead of living in the south.

f) a 4 star hotel in Liverpool has just one bathroom per floor - with no bath.

No definately not - I don't do deprived. Plus, I can't live on battered fried Mars bars, pies and chips for a week. Do they have Earl Grey tea in the north?

The violence bit I can stand - I used to live in Sydney Australia, where the men are men (and so are the women)

Re: A sorely missed feature

If you are only here for a week why do you need a bath?

So it is True.

I thought that that was a natural aroma.

Re: A Sorely Missed Feature (The UNRELATED posts)

No, I couldn't go to a place where property prices are falling, it's not ethical.

Anyway, I've booked to go to London for a few days, staying in a 4star near Hyde Park, it's costing heaps but fortunately money is not a problem. Plus I wanted to do some shopping in Bond Street and I may get measured for a new suit in Savile Row, I saw some £400 shoes online - I may get some of those made for me. I like handmade shoes instead of those made for ordinary people

I'll book lunch at the Savoy - it's been completely revamped, be nice to see what they've done.

Should be a nice few days.

Re: A Sorely Missed Feature (The UNRELATED posts)

Some useless information.

My Grandmother's cousin had a suite booked permanently, at the Savoy some many years ago.

Just in case he was in town.

Nice to have that sort of money.

I see that we have been moved, and I like the new thread name, very relevent unlike some of the rubbish being posted, I am beginning to think that col has lost the art of banter.

The essential ingredient of repartee is amusement on both sides.

Or is it just his mind?

Not necessarily so, it may be just a witty remark made quickly, and it may be a witty putdown, banter however, which is the word I used, is always intended to be playful or humerous.
