Reliable e-mail solution

I have a database that sends emails to a certain maintenance worker depending on which nursing unit the request comes from. The program we use is a little free dos-based email program. We use Groupwise as our email system, not Outlook. Does anyone know of any other reliable email programs as this one occasionally does not send the email. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

I do not know anything about your email system. But my first thought would be instead of changing systems to try and check after the email should have been send that it actually has been sent.

The program we use does have an acknowledgement message, but I have suppressed that so the folks who use the program don't have to see a message every time they send a message. Even with that, though, it isn't very descriptive.

I use vbsendmail its free but you will have to download and register the dll and drop some code into your app.

If you have access to a SMTP server, then vbsendmail works great.
