I'd like to know whether it is possible to use Access to let me login to a POP3 email account to retrieve emails. For eg:

Customer sends a helpdesk request to helpdesk@mycompany.com

My Access application periodically login to the POP3 mail server as 'helpdesk' user to retrieve email(s) and then saves the content of the email in one of the tables in Access.

Subsequently, a ticket number is generated, an autoreply email with the Subject header added with ticket number is sent to the customer as well as the Service Support personnel in my company.

Should I use Access for this type of request?

Thanks in advance for helping.

Yes,

Im not cirtain how to do it but
I belive u need to use winsock.

sorry but if you want this to happen i beleive that the access database would be so slow. i think you may be better of having a php acount to do this all for you. may be easier. people can go on your site and then enter the info in a text box and then the website can send you an email and your customers and email. even better you can relate to your access database on the we and have querys and reports and even as you want create tables and the website will asign what you want. easy as pie

Good luck

Sorry dont have any, all my email code uses CDO, outlook and lotus notes.

You could try

www.vbforums.com

its a good source for complex coding like winsock.

Ok I'm interesting in any code that read email from email account.
Do you have something with mapi or cdo or anything else?

Instructions in above link are to send an email. I need to read/receive email within MsAccess.

Hi Michael,

Would appreciate it if you or anyone on this forum could paste a sample VBA to retrieve emails from a POP server.

I've tried another method to retrieve emails, ie via Outlook, but that is not ideal because doing so doesn't capture the email address of the sender, therefore attempts to do a reply will not be successful.

Refer to my earlier posting

Thanks...

Thank you Pat, the last link seems to be the closest to what I've done. I'll spend some time on the sample code and update here should I have anything to share.
