im wanting to create a text box that will accept rich text like bold and underline that will be used to print on reports.
is there a way to do this in access 97 from the standard isntallation without any extra activeX controls??

From my distant memory in the days of 97 I recall that there is not a way to acheive this unfortunately.

It largely depends on exactly what you want to do.

If you only want to conditionally bold, colour, underline or draw an ellipse around the entire text box then it is possible. If you want to do it only on certain words in the text box then that in another thing entirely.

Access 97 categorically does not have this ability in and of itself. You would definitely need an add-in of some sort.

what i thought. oh well, we will live with it. thanks.
