I recently upgraded to MS Access 2013. A major challenge that faced me was that local help files for VBA was not available. Following instructions, I downloaded a separate Access Developer Document file from Microsoft site. While this was some help, it couldn't be run as integrated into Access 2007 and below.
Can someone please help show me how to make the local help files run within MS Access 2013?
Thank you.

What screen were you getting when you tried to go to help? In my Access 2010 I was able to switch to the local help file without any hassle because the office help was no longer supported.

Maybe someone who uses 2013 can chime in.

Hi Oluyemi!

Same with me!!! It occurred after uninstalling A2007: this clears automation register entries and I think that's why we loose help. What version did you uninstalled?

What error message or screen do you get when you click Help or press the F1 key?

By the way, I'm intrigued that you've been registered since 2013 but made only 3 posts (with the last 2 on this thread) ;)

I get no message, just transferred to web. F1 does the same...

vbaInet: you see, he is going through the same sh.. I did, doing the same error: MS does not document it but if you have A2007 and PLAN to upgrade to 2013, one should uninstall A2007 BEFORE switching to A2013!!!

By the way, my triumph was premature: GetObject stupidly ask for the BE password!!! The handle of the shelled job cannot be use to access it...

In that case follow the attached screenshot and set those two options.

And looks like you would still have to go back to the other suggestions for that other problem JLC ;)

In Access 2013, Microsoft Access Help (F1) opens Access Help but Access Help from your computer displays no content. That the crux of the matter, quite unlike MS Access 2007. It appears Microsoft has depreciated the component.
Users deserve the support without necessarily going online. What can be done to achieve this?
Thanks for your efforts.

Could it be you still have A2007 installed? When both were running, I had the same problem: an empty screen...

vbaInet: I cannot get that screen because HELP button on A2013 is totally different: no automation? goto web. No web connexion? you only get a limited help on ribbon usage!!!

Let me see a screenshot of what it looks like?

If someone has the Access 2013 help files you should be able to use those. The help files are under the 1033 folder.

Done: doesn't work!!! Not connected to Access, not stored in 1033, not stored in downloads. Here are the screenshots you asked for.

I'm not fluent in French JLC :p

You see the dropdown on "Aide de Access", does it give you those options I mentioned earlier? And can I see the bottom as well.

Try and copy/paste the files into the 1033 folder, here's the path:

C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Office\OfficeX\1033

where X is your version of Access.

out of interest

office11/(Access 2003) has chm files
office12/(Access 2007) has chm files
office14/(Access 2010) seems to have a different format HXK/HXS/HXT files etc.
office15/(Access 2013) doesn't even have a 1033 folder!

I think MS are pushing A2013 towards cloud based services.

You actually have all these versions of Office Dave?

Re Office15, I've just had a second look at the Helpconnected snapshot that JLC uploaded and it looks like it has a 1033 folder but in a slightly different location "\roo\1033". I would imagine that Office15 uses the same format at 14.
And even if they do move it all to the cloud, they'll be silly not to leave some local help files that developers can use.

Yep, all happily co-existing, although I tend to only use A2003 and A2013.

(not office - I just have all versions of access. My previous PC died on me. It was second hand with an "ultimate" office - I forget the version now, but I had no disks. I needed Outlook for my new PC, so I got Office365)

A2013 and A2003 work without issues. A2003/A2007/A2010 all force re-installs of one another. (not sure about transitions between A2007 and A2010)

I had A97 (fun with the Hatten font) and A2002 as well.

That's pretty handy. My older versions of Office are installed on my older machines and they're gathering dust at the moment :D

vbaInet #13:

The help download was a rather small .chm file: are you familiar with that? It's a good old days format produced by a Help file maker (forgot the name) and it's definitely obsolete.

It's not a drop down but a text control.

Bottom was cliped because there is nothing.

Don't be mistaken: MS is not silly, MS doesn't give a shit about the end user 'cause its a Monopoly!!!! I tried a french alternative: it lasted 1 form - a typical french catastrophy.

JLC, yes those are the old help file format. I wasn't expect that to be the file format in the download because my version uses the newer version that gemma-the-husky mentioned.

There's got to be somewhere where you can switch from online help to local help.

It's the developers that keep their applications running so they've got to keep them happy ;)

Assumption: they want to dump Access because overall, they found that it's usage as a system development tool is declining...

Just found this one: an Access web app cannot be encrypted!!!! So who is going to be silly enough to develop web apps??? I thing that Access days are counted...
