Running Local Help file within MS Access 2013

Perhaps trying to move everyone to .NET eventually ;)

They should have stuck to Desktop solutions! Anyway, looks like we're hijacking Olu's thread! :)

I now have the reason behind those problems. Office 365, which contains A2013, is causing the problem. It has to be used connected to the web to get any help, that is rotten anyway - most of the time I have to search the web to get MSN descriptions.

A2013 is made to use web data files. It is a very limited version of Access: no automation, no Activex controls and last but not least no treatment of report events...
No one at MS could deal (even understand) the problem (approx. 15 phone calls): it's Gina who did the job.

Now, I am trying to get back to A2007 but MS cancelled my product ID!!!!

So before switching to Office 365 thing twice: you may not get what you are expecting. Oh, one more point: to realize that you have been screwed you need to use it,don't forget that there is no refund on a package that has been used even only once...

@JLCantara

Can you please be very very specific? The problem is the Office365 version of A2013, right? Not A2013 stand-alone full office version, right?

@Spike
Yes, I am talking about A2013 that comes with Office 365 personal. You are talking about a A2013 full version: at MS, no one seems to know the existence of such a package...

So now you can no longer get a normal office with a normal Access 2013 installation?

I thought A2013 and A365 were the same. I use A365 without bothering with web bits. Office 365 shows in "All Programs" as 2013 versions for Access, Word, Excel etc.

@Gemma: A365 doesn't exist, I just checked.

@ Spike: the problem is that there are so many version of Office 2013 that I don't know which one to chose. And notice that the store is now the only way you can get details on any given package...

Splitting hairs a bit.

Office 365 installs 2013 versions of all units within the package.

What do you mean different versions of Office 2013? Isn't there just (effectively) a non-professional without access, and a professional with access.

fwiw, office 365 offers 4 versions on the back.

Home and Student. Basic Word/Excel
Home and Business Basic Word/Excel + Outlook
Personal. Everything, 1 user
Home. Everything, 5 users in home environment

@Gemma Not at all: I really tough there was a neeeeeew version of Access. There are at least 2 version of Office 2013: professional and professional plus. As said by vba somewhere above, it is clear that MS is forcing Access developers to use SharePoint: so bye bye automation, Activex controls and extended report design.

Thank you all for your contributions.
Having tried to no avail, I think MS deliberately withheld those vital tools in Local Help files and VBA in Access 2013.
I have since reverted to Access 2007, out of frustration; the *.chm files are not rich enough. :banghead::
