I have an Access Database that is deployed as a Runtime application. On my test computer, I opened one of the reports and received a message that this report was too large to fit on the page. "The section width is greater than the page width." If I click on the "OK" button, then then it adds a blank page between the pages of the report but will show the report. I have since gone back to my working database (the one from which the Runtime was built) only to discover the report works fine here. I don't see blank pages and don't get this message.

Does Runtime reset margins on reports?

I don't think it does. What's more likely (just guessing here) is that the printer on the test computer is a different model or uses a different driver or something like that, which can cause the margins to be regarded slightly differently and cause the white space.

What you might consider doing is trying to lower the print margins for the report. I don't know what menu choices you've given the user in the interface, but in my Access applications I always include File > Page Setup so the user can tweak the margins. Try that and see if it helps.

As I said, it's just a guess but it can't hurt to give it a shot :)

Thank you, Shadow. I know for a fact that the test computer uses a different printer and driver, so I'm fairly sure you are right on the spot there.

I haven't included ANY menu choices. This is packaged with Runtime, and is an .accde version first. The user doesn't see a ribbon at all, but I can see the usefulness of this. Can you tell me, please, how I would include a single menu item?

Thank you in advance for any help you can offer.

one thing that can do this is designing for letter size paper, when the printer is set to A4

A4 is slightly narrower (and taller) than Letter, and can cause exactly this effect.

I think this may well be the case in the US, especially. Is letter the same as foolscap? not sure if you use that size in the US.

You make a good point, Dave. I set up this document based on U.S. Letter size paper (that's 8.5 x 11 inches or 21.59 x 27.94 centimetres.) That's foolish on my part. I must think more globally.

I like Shadow's idea of allowing one menu item for File > Page Setup more and more. I had also better make the elements on the page smaller.

Please continue to offer ideas on this. I'm incredibly grateful for your thoughts.

Well, how about a right click menu that the user can right click and select Page setup?

Right click menus are available in the program. I've used them after opening a report in Print Preview (which is how my reports open.) The problem seems to be that this message pops before the report opens and I'm concerned users will panic at the message.

I'm working on condensing the report to fit better on a smaller page. I'll see if I get formatting on my right click.

Thanks for the advice.

If you reduce the margins on a one time basis, you won't have the problem in the future, and neither will your user :)
