sorry if this has been answered but i cant find it
can anyone kindly give me a simple answer

i have a form with a field
i want to click a button next to the field that will open outlook express and prefill the send to box with the email address

please try to make it simple im a learner!

You can start by looking in VBA help at SendObject, which would be the simplest way.

thanks i tried that but its a bit hard to follow

has anyone got an example i could copy?

Really? You could also search here on the same thing, which should turn up a few hundred examples.

ok thanks
you obviously want to make me work for the answer instead of just telling me

Well, you said you were a "learner", which I took to mean you actually wanted to learn. Figuring out how is the best way to learn, in my experience. I apologize if I misunderstood.

nearly - im getting there

i have a form with a field
i want to click a button and it will open outlook express and prefill the email address
thanks for being a lot more helpful

johnbigbooty

that's handy - i was looking at (ie needing to) doing something like this, but i only have documentation in my reference material to manage outlook, not outlook express

i will try this approach

thanks

Doesn't Access just fire up the default email client?

I thought Outlook Express was discontinued and replced by Windows Live Mail. Or is it just no longer supported? The point I am trying to make, is coding for and out of date Microsoft product is not a healthy thing to do.

It isn't coding for an out-of-date product as the code that was provided should work with any MS email client (Outlook, Outlook Express, or Windows Mail). It should work with other email clients too, but as I don't use them I am not 100% sure. The SendObject code should work for all of the MS email clients.

You are absolutely correct Bob. SendObjectdoes work with Windows Live Mail. My comment was about coding for Outlook Express. I was intimating the Outlook Express should be upgraded to Windows Live Mail.
Ps: Your personal site is great.....helped me a few times!

Add this to the vba and it works great (automatically opens up your default mail window with the email address (that is in the field on the form) already in it.

Dim StrInput As String
StrInput = "mailto:" & Me![name of your email field goes here]
Application.FollowHyperlink StrInput, , True

hope this is what you are looking for

Adrian
