Hello,

I am trying to send a set of characters to a point of sale receipt printer, which will make a cash drawer kick out.

I have the set of characters, and have studied the open...for output as .... command.

The probelm i am having is that in every example "lpt1" is listed, and this printer is a usb connected printer, so (as i understand it) can't be in the lpt1 port.

Instead of printing to the printer, the code prints to a file, with the name of the usb port. I read somewhere that LPT1 is a reserved name, does that mean it is the only one that can be used and i am SOL?

Has anyone had any success within an access program?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Anna

I am taking a stab, but here's a thought for you.

Don't fight the system. Live with it. If your USB-attached device isn't in the list of active printers, make it so. Give it a name if it doesn't get an automatic name from your device manager.

Make a file contain the character sequence you want it to contain. Then use the DoCmd options to select the USB-attached printer, then do another command to print the file you want. You really don't care if the system spools the character sequence as long as it selects the right printer, do you?
