Sendobject to Thunderbird?

Hey guys, my Sendobject command is reporting 'The command or action SendObject isn't available now', I guess it is because I need to have Thunderbird (not outlook) to send my emails.

Is there a way/cmd to send reports via thunderbird?

i am sorry, i couldnt resist and will keep my comments strictly related to Access from now on.

on a serious note, i havent heard of Thunderbird and apparently, no-one else has either because there are not any reply posts. Maybe if you gave a more detailed question, someone could answer. I guess, its not all about the actual program, more so the sequence used to try and contact.

You could try offering your current code as an example so other people could look at it and either say its wrong because of this or that.

IMHO.

I just saw this post. I use SendObject to Thunderbird all the time. I have never had any problems.

The biggest issue with using a third-party mail sender is that you must make it available for code references. Search this forum for "References" and you will get a veritable plethora of information.

In essence, once you have built a reference to Thunderbird's interface information, you can call it as an application object and manipulate it via visual basic calls.

That's a very important point. This is why I never use automation in my applications if it requires a reference. It's one thing if I'm using the application for myself but when giving it to dozens of users where we don't know what version they are using is not even worth trying. The original question was with regard to Sendobject which works great regardless of what version of Office happens to be installed . Right now, I wish there were a way to do attachments using Sendobject...

and on MY serious note: i don't use any email 'program' - i just use yahoo. is there a way to get access to send it directly from access independant of any other program? i've heard of people refering to SMTP code - is this what i'd use?

SMTP is used a lot because of the security issue with Outlook.
SMTP is also good for email campaigns etc because it does not fill the Send box.

I also find it works better but can be a bit more fiddly for some things, that is, to make them. For example. to use a Word doc as the body of the email you must have your code first save it as a HTM file and then use that document.

But I would imagine if you wanted to do some real fancy stuff for Access/Email then Outlook might be the easiest and because it is part of MSOffice and so shares VBA, kind of like Word and Excel. The other advantage Outlook probably has is the help available from forums and Google.

PS,

I don't know about yahoo but suspect it will be the same as Windows Mail and Outlook Express in the sense that you can have Access to Outlook while still using the other as your normal email. That is what I do for my own use.

Thus when I want see emails I use Outlook Express or the Vista Windows Mail and ditto for normal email replies. But when I send emails to clients and similar where it is drawing from Access and Word then I have Access to Outlook.

If you use Word for the email body the format also is there. So you can give your email body background colours, texture etc and also have Access insert data in the Word bookmarks. Your customers will think you are a magician

you can also set a signature in html format and link it to the smtp email. i guess its the same as a word doc but not converting etc etc.

that's fabulous (well, the SMTP bit - youtube is blocked by our work server, so i'll have to look at that later)! that looks like i can also have a table where the user inputs their SMTP details - so that if i end up distributing the DB each person can use their own details! perfect! i'll fiddle with that and let you know how i go

If the following is put in a textbox (for email body)

then the website comes through as clickable.

One of the problems with OutLook is stuff (when sent by Access) will sit in the outbox until you open Outlook. I find SMTP is straight through. For example I have Starting Email go in a text box and then Finished Email goes in at the end. I can then open my email and in it comes.

One problem with SMTP, and I have not tried any ways to get around it, is a reply to an email sent via SMTP has all those > below where the replier types.
