Hi,

I really hope that someone can help me with this. I try to set up passwords for a few people. I have put the database on the server and I used the Wizard, but something went wrong. I think I haven't deleted the default Admin and User group. The database can be opened on other computers, but it didn't require password from them. Instead a message came up regarding the restrictions for using the database (in this case it was read-only, as I set up a read-only group).
When I try to add other Users to the database, I have only 2 groups available the Admin and the User.
Can I do the whole Wizard again on the same database? Or to delete the Admin somehow after setting up the Workgroup? Or is there any simple solution to set up passwords in a multi-user environment in Access 2003?

Your help is much appreciated.

Many thanks,
Susanna

Access2003 has a default Security Database (System.mdw). If you start implementing Security without creating a separate Workgroup Information file (.mdw) all security settings (User Names and Passwords) goes into the default symstem.mdw file on your Workstation. All workstations installed with Microsoft Access have their own system.mdw files.

You must create a separate Workgroup Information File (from Tools - ->Security - - >Workgroup Admin) and install it on Network Server accessible to all Users of your Application. All workstations of your Application Users must be joined to this common Workgroup Information File to implement common Access rights to each group of users.

Check the following link for more details: Microsoft Access Security. Read the Comments section on the page where some important aspect of security is discussed.

Visit the Main Menu Security - -> Security Basics pages for other details.

Hi, Go to the tools - security - users permissions and add a user, say 'itsme' (or what ever) put him in administrators group. Then exit and login as itsme. Then go and remove all rights - especially 'database access' from 'admin'. Kill him! Then admin will not be able to login again. Add also other users - not in admins group. You will then have to login like 'itsme' with a password of course.
