Slow performance and freeze

I have a split database with the backend on a network. Everything's been working great until recently. All of a sudden the performance is quite slow plus I can't edit many objects on the frontend, and those that I can get into design mode, cause the database to lock up when I try to save. Removing the linked tables seems to fix the problem, but that's obviously not a solution. Also, if I take a copy of the backend and save it locally, attempting to link to the locally saved backend also causes freeze up. But I can still link to the network backend.

???????????

After a little more experimenting, I've solved the problem. For those interested:

The poor performance was due to network delay. If I wait a long long long long time and ignore the [Not Responding] warning, it eventually does respond.

If I save the backend locally to a totally different directory, it allows me to link to it. Very strange, as I experimented with a new test database and I was allowed to have the front and backends in the same folder.

Anyway...you can file that under "Strange But True". :p
