Hi

My boss has me under pressure to set up a small database for our pc repair workshop. I have been working on access for a few days with little success. Does anyone have a workshop type database made? Or is anyone willing to do one for me. I will pay for your time. Ohh need it for Tuesday (sorry)

What do you need the database to do? I would love to help out but I am not as worthy as some other posters here. I also would have trouble finishing it by Tuesday.

By the way, Welcome to Access World Forums. (:

Can you post more details of what you need?

Maybe .zip up what you've got and attach it, which would be easier than starting from scratch. What version of Access?

I Have 6 tables and some of the forms done need help with relationships and querys, don't have a ER model just doing it on the fly

Then lagbolt is correct. If you can post the file, it might help us help you. At any rate, we will need more detail on what additional changes you want done.

Hi all

Tried to upload the database but it is to large 100k limit, if anyone wants to have a look let me have your email address and i will email it to you.

Regards Paul

Paul,

Go to Tools --> Database Utilities --> Compact/Repair

Then ZIP the file.

It should be under 100K.

Ok i have uploaded it, Don't Laugh!! I wanted to also upload the sheet that i have to complete after a pc repair but it is to big also. Hope this gives an idea what i am trying to do.

the attached file works. yay.

now what would you like done?

Paul,

If possible can you write down what you want the database to do and what data you want to store.

I am assuming there are jobs that need completing in the workshop.
I am suggesting at the moment with no info about your task, that the following tables be created:

tblDepartment
tblUser
tblJobSheet
tblHardware
tblSoftware
tblTestBench

and possibly

tblCustomer

Paul,
A brief explanation if you can and then we can help you.

Yes, an idea of what you want to do would be most helpful.

  • What data do you need to store? (Computer? Hardware - Video Card(s), Sound Card, Motherboard, CPU, RAM, Optical Drives, CPU Cooler, and so on? External Peripharals? User Info?)
  • What does each field mean?
  • How is the data related? (Can user can have more then one computer? Can computer can have more then one OS (Dual-Boot)? Can computer can have more then one Printer/Scanner/Optical Drive?)
  • What do you want to do with the data? (Track when errors reported? Who responded? What was done? Date Problem Resolved? Date order for parts placed?)
  • Reports - Any kind of reports required? For each user? For each Tech Support Person?

Try to take us through step-by-step what you would be doing with the database, from entering user info and releven computer info, to the repair process.

There is just so much that can be done, which is good. But since there are so many options, it is imperative we work out what you want to accomplish in great detail before we begin.

Did you get this assigment today to have it done by Tuesday? YIKES!
Or did you procrastinate?

Ok

I would like to do a search on the sheet number as any software on the pc is labeled with the sheet number. Also a search on the user name as users have more than one pc, and a search on the department to see how many pc,s are in different departments. List boxes for computer model/OS/ etc. At the moment i fill in a sheet after every pc worked at. User details,Hardware details,Software,External Peripherals,Pat Test. The only way to find out information on the user or pc is to go through the sheets. Eg IP conflict who has that MAC address. Would like the data dase to store info as in my zip file The external peripherals: is printer, scanner, zip etc. User: is user name, Department, Tel. Software:Xp,office, spss, nero. If the rough database is done i can add to the tables. Hope this gives you an idea.
