SOLUTION: Access 2007 VBA to close Excel process

I might be tempted to use the code Isaac found to see if Excel is running but not stop it. Warn the user they need to close Excel and abort your process. That way you aren't shutting down something they haven't saved yet.
 
Another thing that just dawned on me. May or may not be helpful:
i need to have Excel itself closed prior to creating a worksheet in my Access app.
Why? I'm having a hard time thinking of a case where that might be.
