Hello Experts,

Once again need your expert advise, I split my data base and place the front end and back end at one folder. In my lap top its functioning properly, but when I copy the folder via flash drive to my Office computer, the front end won't open (.. please see image below), but the back end where the tables open.

What did I do wrong? Please help, can I still recover the forms, queries, and reports in my front end?"

Thank you very much in advance.

Cheers!
Chino

Generally that happens when you copy a file over and do not enable it,i.e. change the file properties.

Hello burrina,

Thank's for the quick response.
Please help, how can I enable it? Sorry not familiar with...
When opening I click on the enable button (Yellow status bar) is it what you mean?

Cheers!

Right click the file itself and check to make sure it is enabled.

I right click the file and here's what I get, can't see where can I enable or disable the file.

For your advise.

Many Thanks!

I suspect that the back end it is not properly linked to the front end.
Open the front end in design mode and use the Link Manager.

Thank you Burrina, I will try your suggestion later at home, because the original file is in my laptop, and I'm currently at the office, I only use flash drive to copy the DB. I hope it works. Badly need to make it works.

I'll keep you posted.

Thanks for your time.
Cheers!

Hello burina,

I'm home, first thing I did was to open the Front End in my lap top, unfortunately it also produce same result. Only the home screen of the Ms Access pop's up. The Front End (form, queries, reports) are missing. I can't open the front end in design mode since after clicking the file nothing happens, just the home screen of Ms Access.

I have really no idea where did I go wrong, what I just did when splitting the data base was just to follow the split wizard then after that copy the back End and Front End in one folder, Yesterday it was pretty running, but tonight even the original where I copied the file is also not running..Very much clueless...

Please advise possible reason why this happen?
Many thanks once again.

Sounds like maybe the db is corrupt. Do you have backup copies?
Remember, when you split a db and then copy it or move it, then you have to make sure that the location(s) are the same.

Could you post your database, zip it?
What happen if you first open MS-Access and then open the file from Access?
Have you tried to hold down the Shift key, when you open the database?
Another way is to create a new empty database and import all from the old database into the new database!

Yes burrina, I made a copy before splitting, by trial and error, I found out that your right whenever I change the location of the Back End or Front End or Vice Versa the front End won't open, and that's what I'm pretty curious off, cause the front end won't open in a design mode there is nothing I can do, then start all over again. Also whenever I put a password on the back end, the FE won't open also.
By tomorrow, I will split the database in the server at the office then try to distribute the FE to respective users, I hope it'll work.

Thank you JHB for the help but sorry I can't post a db since its up and running til i got this problem, the Db consist of confidential transactions.
after opening the Front End Nothing Happens I'm still at the home screen of MS Access.
The Shift key+ hold down was being bypass by a VBA code also all the ribbons where hidden via HideTheRibbon Table. Lastly I will do your last suggestion tomorrow to copy the original db(the unsplitted version) to a new DB, but the split version I won't be able to transfer it since I got problem opening the front end, when I copy either the BE or FE in another location.

Thank you very much guys for your usual support. More power to the forum.

Good night,
Chino

If the entire path to the backend is not 100% the same on both computers, then Access will do what it does and freak. You need to click on the frontend file while holding the shift key down and then use the link manager.

If it is split no data should be in it!
