If that is true, then those fools are dumber than I thought. Advancements in automation is part of the future of manufacturing and industry in general and if they can't read the writing on the wall, they deserve what their going to get. No amount of striking is going to get rid of automation and it shouldn't. Wage increases is normal and there are reasonable percentages for that, but what they are asking is so far out of line with reality. Get prepared for the long haul to be without many supplies.
There is spending that is necessary and most that is not necessary. If you don't have the money to support it, then don't spend it. If you are talking about spending less in those areas, you are not seriously talking about cutting government spending. Trump and the Republican party have made it clear they plan deal with deficits by cutting taxes. Your choice is Borrow-and-Spend vs Tax-and-Spend.
