About 3000 people are fluent in Kanien'kéha compared to about 375,000,000 people who can converse in English and more than 1,100,000,000 people who have some Chinese dialect as a first language. Maybe Chinese will become the language of the 21st century

Its handy to know more than one language, I am trying to learn Spanish which is easier then English by far, Anglos seem to have a language that is pieced together from all sorts of sources

Most of us are totally fluent in Chinese here in Scotland. "No 23" for instance gets you a fried rice :D

It's great that you know how many people speak an aboriginal language, I, like most people here, couldn't tell you how many people speak Galic. I'm not even sure if I know how to spell it  :o

Maybe you should check out some Galic words if it is in your heritage or just out of interest. All it takes to learn a language is an open mind :)

mmmmmm I love that commercial quasi-chinese msg ladened restaurant food :D
Sadly there is no restaurant near us but then again if there was I would be there lots so maybe it is better this way ;)

Good idea, unfortunately I am constantly learning new things and our native tongue just seems to get stuck to the bottom of the pile.

Next time you're in Toronto go to one to one of the Mandarin restaurants, they are amazing!

Are Fifty2One and Fire2Ice related? They have similar name constructs and both reply to a quote before the quote rather than after like 99.99999999999999%, or thereabouts, of posters.

Which makes it possible to understand foreigners attempts at our very flexible lingo, whereas foreigners insist we speak their language perfectly if not they speak to us in English thus ensuring that we don't get any better.

mmmm makes me think frybread - yummy
But is it deep-fried for that truly scottish taste:D
In batter, no less! :D

Frybread

4 cups flour
2 tbsp. baking powder
1 tsp. salt
1/2 cup shortening
1 cup warm water
Mix the first three ingredients then add the shortening.
Then slowly add only enough water to make dough stick together.
Knead dough until smooth then make into fist-sized balls and pat them into pancake size circles.
Fry in hot cooking oil in cast iron skillet until brown on both sides.
Drain on paper towels.
Serve with your favourite smashed fruit or maple syrup.

Now that sounds rather like a cross between pancakes and doughballs to me ! Please, don't get me started on maple syrup, would you actually put that on your food? Personally, I'd just drink it by the cupfull lol.

If you're ordering a chinkie - No 147 is egg fried rice here.

The leaflet that comes through our door does so much, I think they started with Chinese, so there is a small section of Chinese, then there's Indian: Italian and finally the traditional Fish & Chips. Never used them lol. We have a fantastic Chinese buffet close by. I do love a challenge ;) The more MSG I can eat the more housework I can get through, who knows, maybe I finish up cleaning the cars too :D

You should be cleaning the cars anyway. Womens work is to clean things, cook, do the shopping and generally keep the home tidy. Sometimes life can be disrupted by having a sprog or two, if you're really that silly then look after them as well.

If we went back to the core family values of the 40's and 50's then maybe kids would be less prone to violence.

Hey, I do all that too!! That's why people think I'm a witch! I don't actually fly that broomstick, it's stuck there so I can sweep the floor while I'm busy peeling his grapes ;):D
