The Japanese actually have to take and pass 5 years of English in school.
Not only the Japanese, the Dutch have the same...

Do you have any evidence that the Polish influx is not paying its way?

Yep!, if they have families back home (they are entitled to claim the same benefits as someone who's lived here and payed taxes for years)and send the money back to their wives having never paid a penny towards it:mad:

Perhaps you should denounce your citizenship, ship your family members to another country, start to talk jibberish and claim refugee status. Then you will get your free posh council house, the college education you never could afford and the minimum wage job you always wanted before some foreigner took it.

Nah thanks, I'm British and proud of it! What I will do along with millions of others is to vote the current stupid bunch out of office

The bunch in office cant be that stupid, they did manage to get voted into their bureaucratic positions of minimum effort for maximum benifit. Also I thought the political process was to leave the current ones in office for up to 4 years then vote another bunch of replacement finger pointers and blame game players into their cushy spots

Or are you planning a coup d’état

Hmm, here's a thought. You could denounce your British Citizenship and claim assylum right back in Britain. :D

But think of all the paperwork involved, and because I speak English I wouldn't get the benefit of a civil servant filling it in for me. And another thing why are they called "civil", everyone of them I've met has been as ignorant as pigsh*%;)

AWWWWWW darn - sounds like even though you are bitching you are going to wait it out... I was looking forward to the coup d’état... you sure you dont want to be a modern day Guy Fawkes?

The future generations could celebrate Rich's Nuclear Detonation Day with a bit more gusto that just like firecracker night

Strange...in most countries students are required to take a second language all through school and master it.
Only those countries where English is the primary language don't require it.
Even in Quebec, English is compulsary all through school for those who have French as their first language.
The reverse was not the case until recently.

Wouldn't it be amazing, if this caught on, all over the country...?

'GOOD MORNING, WELCOME TO THE UNITED KINGDOM '

'Press '1' if you speak English.'
'Press ''2'' to disconnect until you can
Not to sound pessimistic, but we need some of that in this country too

That is being kind to the none English speakers , because like it or not English is the international language, and whilst that should not be an excuse for English speakers to be lazy it does make it difficult to learn/become fluent in a foreign language as they would rather practice their Englsh on you than put up with the English person's stumbling attempts no matter that they appreciate them.

Actually the international multilingual community perfer if unilingual english people stay english only. Makes talking behind their backs and making side deals so much easier.
Onkwehonwehneha sata:ti. ;)

Rich a variation on your theme

'GOOD MORNING, WELCOME TO THE UNITED KINGDOM '

'Press '1' if you speak English.'
'Press ''2'' to be redirected to our call centre in India where they don't speak English either despite insisting that their name is Robert

Ya you would figure that after England invaded India in 1765 and maintained the strangle hold on the country until 1947 that either the opressers or the opressed would have mastered the others language

How many Canadians speak Mohawk? ;) We wouldn't be British if we weren't arrogant enough to expect the whole world to speak our language :D

How many years will it take before there is only one common language being spoken throughout the world? We already have loads of East European words creeping in around our area.

About 3000 people are fluent in Kanien'kéha compared to about 375,000,000 people who can converse in English and more than 1,100,000,000 people who have some Chinese dialect as a first language. Maybe Chinese will become the language of the 21st century

Its handy to know more than one language, I am trying to learn Spanish which is easier then English by far, Anglos seem to have a language that is pieced together from all sorts of sources
