ok... am building a database for the department of education and they have enquired about whether we can incorporate a facility that will text message users onto their mobile phones!

if this is possible I assume that you would need some external software.. and link through to access..

am still laughing about this .. but thought it was worth a thread to see if anyone has any experience of this..

Depends on how you need to send the text message. Some only need an email. You can use the SendObjects function for this. All you will need is the email address to send the text message to.

The other method would be to use a COMM OCX to control a modum to dial and send the text message.

In either case you will need to talk to the provider to find out what is required to send a text message to a phone without using a phone on their service.

I have found a company specialising in text messaging software which allows bulk messages sent to mobile phones... this then can be populated with the data from my database..

am waiting on a call back from the company.. expecting the hard sell technique....

Mobiledit can do this although it is not specifically a database related software, it is an open system that can adjust.
