The Green Lamp

Len,

I read an article on this very subject a couple of years ago. Probably New Scientist but could have been in the Scientific American.

The answer, if I recall it correctly, is that the light from these mirriad stars has not got here yet.

Hmmmm

So at some time we will see the light from a star that doesn't exist !!!

So we will be looking at history...Is that Time Travel of a sort

We're quite possibly already looking at stars that don't exist, and just don't know it...

Think about how many light years away they are. Even the closest is, what, tens of lightyears? The furthest, I have no idea. Thousands at least.

Say a star is 100 light years away. It will take light 100 years to travel to us from there (hence the name, light year). If it blew up 99 years ago, we wouldn't know...

(when did this become the astronomy & philosophy thread?)

Called hijacking or discussion development

back to the stars

So the little twinkling start that I was borne under was maybe not there anyway,

I have been living a dream.

You're not really here either! This is just a figment of your non-existent imagination.

Another potential factor is large gravitational fields such as stars and large planets can change the path of light. Black holes can even trap light indefinitely. So some dark patches can also be due to light simply being pulled out of those areas before it reaches Earth.

Yeah... those black holes really screw with my mind. Can't quite conceive of what it is made of.
