Hey all,

I currenty run a database with a FE/BE design. Each person has their own FE (not a shortcut) which connects to a back end on a shared network drive. This si done via Link Tables.

I'm having problems with the loading time or rather the loading process. It will often freeze (white screen with a 'not responding' message) but then on second try it will open fine. Just wondering if there are any tips to help Access not get bogged down or 'confused'?

Many thanks in advance!

Thanks for the quick reply Banana!

That looks like it could help! By reading that article, it appears that access will keep the conenctions open. Would this cause a problem with record locks? I'm unsure if the locks are based on the record or the table. If it's the table then I guess it would be a problem! Approx 15 people use the database.

Thanks,
NS

Normally, in a well-designed application, locking almost never need fiddling with so I wouldn't be concerned with this and would sooner look at design issues or network saturation first.

I had this problem and did everything I could find to fix it.

It turned out that the computer had a network setup problem as it was always slow to make the first connection to a server or peer even for browsing folders. It would then work fine until the timeout of the connection (default 15 minutes)

I eventually found a suggestion to delete and reinstall the following Clients and Services.

Client for Windows Networks
File and Printer Sharing for Windows Networks
QoS packet scheduler
