Hi,
I have created a fe/be database, now my problem is that I want to make it secure and I thought creating an mde would be just the ticket but the client I am creating it for is running access 2000 and I have created it in access 2003 under XP Pro but in 2000 format, when I go to create the mde file it says that I have to convert it to 2003 format - my question is - will an mde file created from a 2003 format database run in access 2000 on windows 98?
If this is possible I will then tackle the copy protection problem.

cheers

The database created in Office 2003 cannot be run on win 98. Better you install office XP on your win XP installed system and import all forms, tables, report, etc. in a new database under office XP or in other words simply recreate your application.

damn, i thought that might be the case, i don't have office xp only 2003, what do you suggest for securing the fe and or the be?

cheers

i have been reading different threads on this forum re this subject and i have seen as posted by some members that password/users isn't so secure. I have looked at different time/date restrictions but they don't really suit the situation where i am selling the db to a company that need to put it on two computers, (they will be doing the install, my only input in this will be telling them where to put the db so the fe/be links work). i want to therefore protect it from being taken to a third or more pc's after that.
The topics on get/save settings seem to be close but i don't understand any of that as i am only new to access programming and i would hate to corrupt my registry whilst testing.

Cheer up!

Now stop worrying about such a security. Piracy is such a problem, with which even Microsoft is unable to fight. The solution given in forum are more than sufficient, use any one of them & leave the rest on the honesty of the company.

Thanks guys,
I'll do that when I get there. Do I have to convert both fe and be or only the fe where all the code is?

cheers
