Hiya Guys,

I have been using access for sometime now, but feel restricted to the look and feel of the system.

I have decided that I would like to learn Access VB & Visual Basic, but have not used either before.

Does anyone recommend a good beginners guide to any of the above, and if there is anything else you think that I might benefit from....

Thanks in advance for any advice....

Max

Does anyone have these books, and know if they are worth getting.
Im a total beginner in this area, and want to spend as little as poss, but get the best value for money, but with good info too.

Thanks in advance

The one I learnt from was Wrox Press' Beginning Access 97 VBA.

I've heard a few complaints about the 2000 version regarding errata.
Never buy the books for Dummies - they are crap.

And, the others are for Visual Basic.NET and are not even related to what you are after.

I think the question, to paraphrase your original post, is that you want "to learn Access and Visual Basic".

Now, are you mistaking Visual Basic for Visual Basic for Applications (VBA) which is the language in applications such as Access, Excel, etc... ?

Confused

SJ,

Looks like I have gone off on a tangent.

What i want to do is work with VB in aceess ( VBA ?? )
So from what you have said, VB.NET is something totally different ?
I thought it was just the newer version ?? Am I totally wrong here ?

But I would also like to learn eventually how to create my own front end programs that dont use access, but DO for the data backend..... But thats getting ahead of my self at the min, I would firstly like to know the ins and outs of Access 1st.

ARRG, I`m confusing my self now !!!

So basically at the min, im after VBA ???? not VB.Net for access programming ?

Max

p.s. there are far to many differnt VB`s to look at !!!!!

I Now Understand

SJ,

Done a search on google in to the differences.
Now I understand.

The wox press ones seem to be only downloadable, which i dont want, so ive ordered the following

Estimated dispatch date for these 3 items: 10 Jul 2005
Beginning VB.NET - Thearon Willis
£18.89 - Quantity: 1 - Usually dispatched within 24 hours

Gift options None

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Beginning Access 2003 VBA - David Sussman

Microsoft Access 2003 Forms, Reports and Queries - Paul McFedries

Thanks for the advice

Sql ??

Just a quick one whilst im on this kind of subject.

Do you require SQL Server, to get the most out of Access, or is there something else you can use, as my company wont fork out for an SQL server.

Does this make any difference really ?

Do you actually have VB.NET?

In light of the subject of this thread, that is a bit an odd variant!

This question has been asked over and over again on this forum. Please use the search capability.

my reply

I do have .NET studio, which my company got for me.

Stuipid ppl, They could have just got an sql server in my opinion.
Anyway, this is what they want me to do now !!!!!

modest, I tried to find what I was after, but struggled, I know reposts are a pain in the backside, I do try to minimise the ammount of requests.

Well, im kitted up now, and i`ll just have to learn as much as poss, as fast as poss.

Thanks guys.
