Jim,

As far as Access goes, a lot of us here are self taught. You can
start with Microsoft's example db's (Northwind, etc.). Then
download samples from this forum. And finally read threads
here to see common design/implementation issues and their
solutions.

Also, there are several threads pertaining to "good books"
so you can use the search facility here for that topic.

If you can persuade somebody to cough up some money then Learning Tree International may be worth a look. Have done some of their courses in UK. (Same courses all over world) and they are quite good but expensive
