The OS on my hard drive crashed. I have installed a new hard drive and new install of A2K.

I can still get to most of the files on my old drive. Is there a way to transfer the "tweaks", like no grid in design view and other misc preferences that I've made over the years, from my old install to the new one?

Thanks,
Sup

I expect they will be stored in the registry.
However it may be easier and safer to just fix them manually.

If you screw up the Office part of the registry you may have to reinstall Office. If you wreck other parts of the registry you may have to reinstall Windows or other programs. So be very careful to get the right keys.

I only have Office 2007 so I don't know for sure with Office 2000.
I have not done this exact process myself for Access but I have for other programs. If particular settings are elsewhere it won't work for them of course.

But if you want to give it a go at your own risk I would experiment first with another disposable user account.

I'm assuming you are on XP.

Open Regedit and go to
HKEY_CURRENT_USER
Software > Microsoft > Office > 9.0 > Access > Settings
Rightclick on Settings and then Export.
Give it a name and save it.
This will create a reg file which will allow you to restore the original keys.

Get the file from your old machine called:
Documents and Settings\{USERNAME}\NTUSER.DAT

Open Regedit
Click on HKEY_USERS
Select Menus > File > Load Hive
Point it to your NTUSER file and give it some name when asked.

Open the new hive and go to:
Software > Microsoft > Office > 9.0 > Access > Settings

Rightclick on Settings and then Export.
This will create a reg file of your old Access settings.

Run the file and it will overwrite your new Access install settings.

The MRU (Most Recently Used) entries might act up for a while. These are the files you opened recently. Ideally remove them all from the reg file before you run it but they will come good in time once you open enough files.

If it all turns bad restore the keys with the backup reg file.

Good luck. Don't do anything if you are not totally sure of the instructions.
