History:
I have a database which is running well and has been in use for a few years. We have several Vans which transport patients from outlying areas to a central facility. The system works well in scheduling pickups. It has modules to check loads (prevents overbooking), make recurring reservations and provide many reports.
Problem:
We wish to use the program in another local, but (always a but) the new local uses a hub to tranport the patients. ie. Van 1 will drive from city 'A' to 'B'. the patients then change Vans and travel on to city 'Z'. We also have a Van(2) for city 'C' to 'B', and Van(3) etc., where the patients board the common Van to city 'Z'. The incoming destination is alway city 'Z' but of course we have to book a return trip at some other time. Much like legs of airplane flight.
I need an algorithim to book both legs of the trip at the same time, or not to book if either leg of the trip is fully booked.
Just to complicate things if the Van from 'B' to 'Z' is full, a Van from 'C' would contiue through 'B' all the way to 'Z' to carry the overflow.
Not expecting code here just hope some one can 'think outloud' and maybe a bright light will come on.
