Hi, all!
I need to import a large text file into a table. I was showed how to do this on a colleague's computer, where I set up all the specs and all that for the text strings to go into the correct fields and all that.
Trouble is, on my PC for some reason, it does not allow me to import a text file. It's just not an option. I go to File -> Get External Data -> Import, and go to "Files of Type" and the only options I get are: Microsoft Access dBase III, IV, 5, Microsoft FoxPro and FoxPro3.0, and ODBC Databases.
Underneath all this, it says "Not all file types are installed by default. To add other file types, run the Setup program, click Add/Remove, Data Access, Change Option. Additional file types are also available in the Office 97 ValuPack"
So I called our Tech Support people and he brought his MS Access stuff and we tried all that but nothing. We even re-installed the whole thing. We also got another CD and tried that one instead.
I went to another person's computer, just to see if she had the options on her version, and she does.
Anyone know why I can't get this option?
I also tried going to "Advanced" and changing the filter to show me everything, but when I try to import anything that shows up after that, it says not a valid database format.
I don't know what to do about this. I've been at it nearly 3 hours. Anyone have any ideas?
Thanks in advance.
