what should i do.

thank you.

there is a problem with the code number 12nc and tblparts. there is an attachment you can have a look.

You appear to be having a problem with a Field that Requires Data. Most likely a Primary Key or a Foreign Key.

I cannot look at your attachment as I use Access 2003

If you want you could convert and repost.

Try populating your tblParts with some data. Populate all tables with data actually and retest.

It's to do with your Referential Integrity check. So no record in tblParts means you cannot add new record in tblCalculation.

hi Jonathanchye, thank you for replying. could you please explain, what do you mean by populating?

thank you

I had a look at your Database but I don't know where your particular problem is.

You did not say which Form is the one I should be looking at.

Having said that I need to say that your Naming Conventions leave a lot to be desired. Also you have a few Normalisation problems.

Have you read up on these two subjects. Naming Conventions will help to make things clearer to understand.

Normalisation will make your Database work.

This is a link to an article on Naming Conventions.

Google Normalization (with a Z) for the many articles available.

Apologies for not solving your immediate problem, but it is a useless task until you attend to your Design.

Another hint is not to use Combo Boxes or anything else as Lookups in Tables. Only use them in forms.

Search "The Evils of Lookups" for a fine article on this subject.

Hey RainLover thank you for your tips. i have reworked it and it works just fine. Ive also read the articles and it cleared my confusion.

God bless u.

Importing from excel to access

Hey guys, i need help with regards to importing data from excel to access with a click of a button.

the current situation:

1. i have an excel file which has a BOM list that has all the data.

2. then i copy data from BOM list and paste it into another excel file called Import template that is divided into 4 seperate sheets: datasheet, system, parts, supplier

3. finally i import data into access from the Import template.
the data goes into tblDatasheet, tblSystem, tblSupplier, and tblParts.

what is needed:

is there a way to import data from access just by the click of a button,
without having to copy paste from the BOM list file, and without doing any changes to the BOM list file.

if not what is the fastest n less complicated way to do import the data?

Thank you

I would suggest that you start a new thread.

Or you could make a Report to the Moderators and ask then to move this one for you. And while they are at it they could delete this post.

im sorry RainLover but how do i create a new thread. i cant seem to find any button with regards to a new thread

Select a Forum that you want to use.

At the top left corner there is an Icon "New Thread"

Click on that.

i know it may sound silly but what do you mean by forum

Have a look at the attached Word Document.

Hope this helps
