1) There are some databases here at work that I can open in BOTH A97 and A2K. I thought A2K won't open in A97, and before you can open an A97 in A2K, you have to convert? At least that's been my experience thus far. Any idea what is happening and how I can determine which version these databases are currently in?

2) With those same databases...assuming some were A97, the option to Convert them under Database Utilities is greyed out. Is this most likely a rights issue? Could it be anything else?

Thanks for the help!

They are opening read-only so conversion is not an option. Open with the <SHIFT> key down and see if that gives you the convert message.

Still no convert message.

I can still open both in A97 and A2K holding down shift.

I've had this happen to me also. I don't know what I did to correct it. Access is somehow thinking you want to use the file as is. Try a reboot of the PC and see if that works.

I had this happen when using an AC97 backend and a Ac2K frontend. When all users eventually had Ac2K installed, I tried to convert the back end and no convert option was showing. Presumably, one of the users had already (unsuccessfully and/or inadvertently) done so. My solution was to create a new backend database in Ac2K and then File->Get External Data-> import all the backend tables. I then deleted the old backend, renamed the new (Ac2K) backend and everything was good to go.
