unable to create Referential Integrity or Cascade relationships. Options grayed out

Hi.

I have had a split database for some time and it had in relationships, tables connected to a main table and with Referential Integrity and Cascading checked off.

Now the basic relationships still show but the Referential Integrity and cascading do not. In fact,those choices are 'grayed out' and I cannot choose them.

Any ideas?

It is an Access 97 dtatabase. Some users have WIn 95, Win 98, Win 2000, and Win XXp. The backend is on a Win NT server.

You cannot change those things from the frontend. Go to the backend and you should be able to make any changes you need.

Unfortunately, when I look at relationships from the back-end, none appear to be set, but they do show up when I click on Relationships from the front-end!

Ideas?????

Did you click on the 'Show All Relationships' button? Try that and you should see the relationships. If you don't then compact and repair the backend and try again. They have to be there....

Sorry to say, jack, but still not there.

Again, it is a split database.
From the back-end , not even tables are showing now when I click on Relationships.
BUT from its front-end, I can see the tables and relationships , including as one-to-many, but the Referential Integrity related boxes are grayed out.

You cannot change the relationships from the front end on a split database so that is why the selections are grayed out. Did you do a compact and repair of the backend? Clicking the Show All Relationships produced nothing? Then add the tables to the relationship window and create the relationships from scratch. Close the backend and reopen it. The relationships should be there just a you made them.

I ended up kicking users off and re-adding tables and relationships to the backend. Unfortunately i now cannot put back Referential interity because some users obviously violated some idnumber protocol. So that will be the next task.

Still uncertain why relationships that were there before disappeared from backend view but were showing in front end view.

Thank you for that excellent bit of information as I was not aware of the fact that the relationships did not carry over. I have seldom had the need to split a database so I just assumed that Microsoft knew what they were doing... Another bit of very useful information from your inexhaustable store of Access knowledge.
