Is it possible to work with Access2007 while at the same time learning and testing Access 2010 on the same PC ?
The reason is that migrating to Access 2010 causes problems with MSCAL.OSX.
So I need some time to solve this problem.

I have both AC 2007 and AC 2010 on my Win 7 laptop. Make sure that AC2007 is installed first and when you load AC 2010 make sure to not have the install wizard delete AC 2007. It will ask and you need to say "Just Say NO!" If go from one to the other, I get a short install window that pops up, but other than that, they both work just fine.

And I would be careful to make a copy of the A2007 database and open the COPY with A2010. I have heard horror stores of A2010 doing a silent but deadly upgrade of the file format such that A2007 can no longer open the DB.

Hi,
you can have both versions on the same PC but if you are doing any serious development I would not recommend it.

Thanks

Can you elaborate on your reason for your comments?

I concur with Byron. Please expand on your statement. What can go wrong or right and what is your rationale on this? Since I have both installed, I am very curious about your response.

I can't tell you the reasons why as I've forgotten, but back when 2010 was released, the Access Team at Microsoft said that the two should NOT be installed together. I don't remember at which venue I heard it. It might have been at the MVP Summit that year, but I do remember the question being asked and them saying you shouldn't do it. 2003 and 2007 can live harmoniously together but 2007 and 2010 are not so nice siblings.

Hi, Bob.

Believe it or not, I have one machine with Access 97, 2002, 2007 and 2010 all installed on the same machine. I use his machine regularly for development and update of all of the appropriate file types.

Mind you, I am not attempting to say that everyone should try this type of setup and I am quiet sure there there must be some reasoning behind what Microsoft has said.

All I know is that in the world in which is live and work, I still need all of these versions to do my work for clients. I still have situations where I need to open some old Access 97 database files and do some updates or even prepare them for conversion to some other version. I also have clients using 2002/2003, 2007 and now 2010. I would not want to have to maintain a computer for each of these versions so I have elected to keep these on the same machine. To me, there seems to be more of a difference between 2002 and 2007 than between 2007 and 2010. By this I mean, there is a delay between opening the 2002 version and the newer versions that seems to be more of a complete installation or change of components.

Bottom line for me is that I have no issues using all version on the same machine. The whole thing may blow up on me today or tomorrow, but up to this point I have had no issues.
