Urgent: Reserved Error (-3004)

Hi all,

I can not compact my database to restart the
auto-number in a table. It was working fine before.
The error shown is "Reserved Error (-3004)".

(I am able to run the repair database command.)

Please please help.

Could you add a new column to the offending table, then use a query to copy the autonumber to the new column, then delete the autonumber column, then compact???

Thank you very much Chris.

That option would definitely work. In the mean time I tried to compact the database in version 2000 and it worked. Then it was converted back to version 97. I did this because I am about to give this database to its users and they might not be able to follow the ‘new field’ procedure every time they want to compact. Their system would be upgraded to version 2000 soon. Thanks to you and all the members of this forum.
