valiadation rule violation (again)

Thanks for your help GinaWhipp
I have sorted just it now, it was due to required fields elsewhere in the table. But my other problem is I am trying to do an append query and it should be an update as I want to enter data into a field not add a record.

Okay, I made a mistake :o when I said an APPEND query you need to run an UPDATE query...

Code:
UPDATE tblEvent SET tblEvent.VenueRoom = [Forms]![frmEvent]![cmboVenueRoom]
WHERE (((tblEvent.EventID)=[Forms]![frmEvent]![EventID]));

You are trying to update the field VenueRoom with the room name OR did I misunderstand that?

We were seconds apart with the query observations! Great minds think alike!

Yes but I tried the update and it runs but doesn't put anything in the table. I did have the venueroom nme set to be updated but that was a kind of workaround I really wanted the VenuerroomID but I think I now have the wrong columns in the combobox as its updating nothing and I'm now getting type violations when i changed the bound column to 1.

have just played around and now it updates right but isn't showing the room names but I know that's my query on the combobox. Almost there!

Woohoo doen it at last that was a heck of a couple of days wasted on what should have been an easy thing. I guess i have a lot to learn. Thanks again GinaWhipp
