Hello..

I am having something weird happen to one of my databases. I split the database. That worked fine. But now anytime someone opens it up.. a database1.mdb file is created in the spot I split my database in. If it is opened again.. database2.mdb file is created and so on. Has this happened to anyone?

When the shut down the database the above files remain in the directory.

Thanks

seems that a backup was created on entering.
look in your startup properties or AutoExec macro and kill it.

I went through my AutoExec file and all it does is open up a background and then close the splash page. I looked under startup.. nothing there about a backup...looked under tools>>options.. and nothing.. I am posting a copy of the stripped down database...... I am lost.. Went to the folder this morning and there were 10 copies of the database...

I am hoping it does it... It seemed to be only doing it when I split it...... Or at least that is when I started to notice the other backups in the folder.

how do you start the database? Using a shortcut?

Yes.... A short cut is placed on the desktop that is a short cut to the front end..

Guus..

Have you been able to look at the database...??

Is there an automatic "Compact" or "Repair" as part of the database shutdown process?

Doc..

yes there is.... On close I have the Compact on Close button checked under Options>>General Tab

There is an outside chance that the Compact isn't working, and that is the source of your copy of the database. To get some hint about this, perform an experiment. Find some time where you can open (exclusively) and then close your DB. Mark the exact system time at which you open the file and when you close it. Wait at least 2 or 3 mintues between opening and closing so the system clock time will be unequivocal. Then look for that extra MDB file. Show the details so you can get a date and time at which this copy was created. If it exists and its creation date/time matches the "Close" time you have your answer. Your solution will be to find out why the implied "Rename" isn't occurring.

If that's not it, then I'm not sure what is going on. Post back here if that doesn't pan out because I have some other ideas. But that "Auto Compact" is my first, best guess.

Doing it right now.. give me a few minutes and I will post back

Doc...

that didn't do the trick... I tried it both from the short cut and from the actual .mdb file...

How ever... a new one came up.... but it is the same date but from 1 hour earlier.. db1.mdb

Have you seen this happen with someone who is using runtime 2000 with a database built in 2003? I think that might be one of the problems.... I think..

I've tried your database and it seems to work fine.
monitor your directory and execute your code step by step. Try to locate whén it happens.

Good luck!
