What do you consider to be the best "con" of recent years?

I am convinced that Global Warming is a result of climatic changes to the Earth that have happened numerous times in the history of our planet.

I am also convinced that Man has contributed to this climatic change.

What I am not convinced on is that Man is the sole source of responsibility for this change.

Consider Industrial Revolution occurred a few hundred years prior to today, at this point only fossil fuels were burned and on an unprecidented scale, it was all new and exciting and countries forged ahead with their industrial expansion.
Consider today, yes industry is far in excess of what it was back then, but so is the use of greener fuels and energy.

If the Earth is self repairing as many scientists state, then the planet has had ample time to recover what ever Man has thrown at it in the past.

I agree greener fuels and better air quality is the way forward.

My distain of the whole issue, is the fact that this Labour Government is taxing the population and businesses to the hilt in the name of Climate Change, when whatever we do it will not effect the outcome.
Just an excuse for this government to tax the people again...

We're burning fossil fuels at a vastly greater rate than they did during the Industrial Revolution. Our use of those fuels is more efficient (meaning we extract more work out of them), but we still use more overall, because our consumption of energy is far greater.

Dont waste a panic - the current financial meltdown will cause so many people to be layed off and so many businesses closing that there will be a huge reduction in carbon output...
...also to satisfy the conspiracy theory paranoid people - money grabbing by the government will be reduced due to the number of unemployed people.

OK the British Banking system has to be the biggest con, yet again this Government is going to hand over Billions of my money that I have paid in tax to the greedy banks who simply refuse to lend.

The banks have clearly figured out after the last windfall given to them from the Tax payer that if they refuse to lend then they will get another cash injection, which this Government id giving them..

This doesn't stop the bank re-possessining my house of course or even hassling me to court to pay my overdraft... even though I have effectively already paid them twice now with my Tax...And this time the government is saying the money is to guarantee bad debt, so does that mean that I can keep my house or not repay my overdraft does it fu*k... And does it stop the bank from pileing on the interest to the debt I owe them does it Fu*k... And does it stop the bank from exhaulting extravagant bankes charges to me does it Fu*k..

No Banks are by far the biggest Con... bunch of greedy Merchant Bankers (Cockney Ryhming slang)....

I say let them fall...
