what is the best desktop and server database?

It depends.

Sorry, but a vague question leads to a vague answer. Try to describe what you need and we can provide more specifics.

can we just give our own opinion on what is the best desktop and server database?

I know there are alot of factors that can affect judgment but just in general or just first choice!

thank you.

To be frank, the "best" depends on too many factors that it's almost meaningless to make such a claim, and in some cases, it may be the *only* choice which automatically makes it the best in that category. But being the only choice doesn't necessarily translate into a good product.

Also, choosing the products because someone claims it is the 'best' is more likely to be the wrong choice than choosing one that meets your needs/wants satisfactorily and within the budget. Thus my reluctance to name a best server, even if we could come to define such things.

ok. so base on your wants and needs, can you say what would be your best pick for desktop and server database?

The reason why I was asking is that, i think that you and other people here maybe more familiar that me from those kinds of database. So to be able to decide which I would also choose will come from suggestions that I will also try for myself.

My 2cents worth:
Probably more important than what bit of hardware you use, is how manage what you choose. Keep it simple and don't expect the server to do a million things effeciently - the more things you have running on it, the more likely performance suffers and problems increase
